Abstract
Abstract The apparatus serves to apply a plastic strip to a rectangular glass pane so that the strip extends peripherally along all edges of the pane. The apparatus comprises conveying means for conveying the glass panes, which conveying means comprise a horizontal conveyor for supporting and conveying the glass panes standing on their lower edge, backing means, which extend above the horizontal conveyor and are adapted to laterally support the glass panes standing on the horizontal conveyor in a predetermined plane of conveyance, which is slightly inclined from the vertical toward said backing means, pressure-applying means, which are slightly spaced above the horizontal conveyor and serve to force the plastic strip against a moving glass pane, a strip feeder, which is operable to move in synchronism with the horizontal conveyor at the same speed as the latter to feed the plastic strip to the pressure-applying means, a turning mechanism, which when the horizontal conveyor is at a standstill is adapted to turn each glass pane through 90 DEG opposite to the normal direction of travel of the horizontal conveyor, strip-guiding means for cooperating with the pressure-applying device, and severing means for severing the plastic strip.

Apparatus for applying a plastic strand (9), which is tacky at two oppositely facing, parallel side faces and in which a moisture-binding substance is embedded as well as a metal strip that extends at right angles to the two side faces and in the longitudinal direction of the strand, to a glass plate (5) wherein said strand is continuously and peripherally applied to said glass plate at a predetermined distance from its rim, characterized by means for transporting the glass plates (5), which transporting means consist of a horizontal conveyor (2), on which the glass plates (5) stand with their lower edge as they are transported, and backing means (3), which are disposed above the horizontal conveyor (2) and against which the glass plates (5). lean with a slight rearward inclination as they are transported, pressure-applying means (15), which are slightly spaced above the horizontal conveyor (2) and serve to force the strand (9) at one of its tacky side faces (31) to a passing glass plate (5), strand- feeding means (13), which are adapted to be synchronized with the horizontal conveyor (2) and move at the same feeding speed as the horizontal conveyor and feed the extrusion (9) to the pressure-applying means (15), turning means (7a, 7b) for turning while the horizontal conveyor (2) is at a standstill the glass plates (5) through 90° opposite to the transport direction of the horizontal conveyor (2) about a pivotal axis (8) which extends at right angles to the plane of travel of the plates and is disposed slightly above the plate- supporting plane of the horizontal conveyor (2), guiding means (26-29) for guiding the strand (9) in cooperation with the pressure-applying means, which guiding means are disposed adjacent to the pressure-applying means and act the top of the strand at least during the turning operation, . and severing means (23) for severing the required length sections of the strand from a supply of the strand.
