Abstract

Abstract 57 A corona discharge device including a throw-away subassembly (70) which is inexpensive and which can therefore be discarded when it becomes ineffective for its intended purpose. The subassembly comprises a generally rectangular-shaped insulative frame (72) and a tungsten wire (27) extending between opposite ends (74) of the frame. The subassembly can be readily installed into an electrophotographic machine in which it is to be used. When the subassembly is inserted into the machine, it cooperates with a generally U-shaped, conductive shield (26) which is an integral part of the machine to form the corona discharge device.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim 44 words
A corotron subassembly comprising: a substantially rectangular-shaped, insulative frame member (72), said frame member having end portions (74) and side walls (73) delineating an open area; and a corona wire (27) secured to said end portions (74) and extending therebetween in said open area.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 44 words
A corotron subassembly comprising: a substantially rectangular-shaped, insulative frame member (72), said frame member having end portions (74) and side walls (73) delineating an open area; and a corona wire (27) secured to said end portions (74) and extending therebetween in said open area.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 34 words
A corotron subassembly as claimed in claim I further comprising cap members (88) which are secured to the frame member (72) at the end portions (74) with the corona wire (27) being secured therebetween.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 47 words
A corotron subassembly as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, including attaching means (76) carried by the end portions (74), the attaching means (76) being adapted to receive attachment means (78) forming an integral part of a machine in which the subassembly is to be used.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 25 words
A corotron subassembly as claimed in claim 3 including electrically conductive (98) means connecting the ends of the wire (27) with said attaching means (78).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 96 words
Printing apparatus including a charge-retentive surface (10) on which latent electrostatic images are formed, said apparatus comprising: a substantially rectangular-shaped, insulative frame member (72), said frame member (72) having end portions (74) and side walls (73) delineating an open area; and a corona wire (27) secured to said end portions and extending therebetween in said open area; a generally U-shaped, electrically conductive shield (26) forming an integral part of said printing machine and cooperating with said frame member (72) and said corona wire (27) to form a corona discharge device for use with said charge-retentive surface.
Claim 7
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 33 words
Printing apparatus as claimed in claim 5 further comprising cap members (88) which are secured to the frame member (72) at the end portions (74) with said corona wire (27) being secured therebetween.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 39 words
Printing apparatus as claimed in claim 5 or claim 6 including attaching means (76) carried by the end portions (74), the attaching means (76) being adapted to receive attachment means (78) forming an integral part of said printing apparatus.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 24 words
Printing apparatus as claimed in claim 7 including electrically conductive means (98) connecting the ends of the wire (27) with the attaching means (78).
