Abstract

Abstract Laminated containers for food and the like are prepared by thermoforming different overlying polymeric sheets in a web without using adhesive, by heat fusing the web in the thermo- forming areas to facilitate separation of the scrap material of the web into its separate layers.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 14
Claim 1
Independent Claim 60 words
Process for the preparation of containers by simultaneously thermoforming under pressure or vacuum a combined web of two or more layers of thermoplastic polymer sheet material, wherein the sheets are first contacted together over the thermoforming areas of the web and in the absence of added adhesive, at temperature at which the layers are fused together in the said areas.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 60 words
Process for the preparation of containers by simultaneously thermoforming under pressure or vacuum a combined web of two or more layers of thermoplastic polymer sheet material, wherein the sheets are first contacted together over the thermoforming areas of the web and in the absence of added adhesive, at temperature at which the layers are fused together in the said areas.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 24 words
Process according to Claim 1 wherein the sheets are fused together substantially in the thermoforming areas only, by contact with heated pressure plate means.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 31 words
Process according to Claim 1 or 2 wherein the contact surface of the said plate means is generally convex to exclude air between the layers to which the surface is applied.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 88 words
Process according to any of the preceding claims wherein separate sheets from different rollers are superimposed to provide a web which is fed first to a heating and pressing station where the web is heated and pressed by contact plate means at a temperature at which the combined layers are fused at predetermined thermoforming areas and then to a thermoforming station where containers are thermoformed from the said areas, cutting the formed containers from the web and separating the skeletal remains of the web into its constituent layers.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 24 words
Process according to any of the preceding claims wherein print is applied to one or some only of the layers of the container blanks.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 21 words
Process according to Claim 5 wherein the print is applied in reverse to the inner face of an outer transparent layer.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 13 words
Process as claimed in Claim 1, substantially as described in the accompanying example.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 31 words
Contact plate means suitable for use in the process claimed in claim 2 and comprising a generally convex contact surface of radius 5000 to 10,000 mm. and a profile height 0.1-0.3mm.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 14 words
Contact plate means substantially as herein before described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 14 words
Contact plate means substantially as herein before described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 24 words
Containers comprising two or more fused layers of thermoplastic polymer sheet free from added adhesive, whenever made by the process claimed in claim 1.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 16 words
Container comprising fused layers of olefine polymer with polyethylene terephthalate esters of glycol or polyethylene glycol.
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 16 words
Container comprising fused layers of olefine polymer with polyethylene terephthalate esters of glycol or polyethylene glycol.
