Abstract

Abstract A separator for separating fluids of different densities from a mixture thereof including means to define at least one mixture flow path (80-85) which is helical or otherwise extends along and round an axis, and including a plurality of outlets (73b) from the flow path for the lighter fluid, such outlets being spaced apart along the flowpath and leading from a radially innermost part of the cross section of the flow path.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 72 words
A separator for separating fluids of different densities from a mixture thereof including means to define at least one mixture flow path (80-85) which is helical or otherwise extends along and round an axis, and including a plurality of outlets (73b) from the flow path for the lighter fluid, such outlets being spaced apart along the flowpath and leading from a radially innermost part of the cross section of the flow path.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 72 words
A separator for separating fluids of different densities from a mixture thereof including means to define at least one mixture flow path (80-85) which is helical or otherwise extends along and round an axis, and including a plurality of outlets (73b) from the flow path for the lighter fluid, such outlets being spaced apart along the flowpath and leading from a radially innermost part of the cross section of the flow path.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A separator according to claim 1 wherein the outlets are passages (93) extending from said radially innermost parts outwardly to the exterior of the flowpath.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
A separator according to claim 1 or 2 wherein the cross section of the flow path (80-85) taken in a plane including said axis is generally triangular.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
A separator according to claim 3 wherein the cross section has one side (77) which is generally radial, an outermost side (91) which is substantially parallel to the said axis and a third side (92) inclined to said axis.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 34 words
A separator according to claim 3 or 4 intended for use with said axis substantially vertical and wherein the apex of the triangle is uppermost and the said outlets (73b) are at the bottom.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 28 words
A separator according to any preceding claim including a channel portion (76) of the flowpath at the radially innermost portion thereof and a lip bounding the channel (76).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 22 words
A separator according to any preceding claim including an adjustable stop for each outlet whereby pressure along the flowpath can be controlled.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 32 words
A separator according to any preceding claim including a plurality of second outlets (73a) from the flowpath spaced apart therealong and located at positions where the flowpath is narrow in cross section.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 32 words
A separator according to any preceding claim including a third plurality of outlets (73c) from the flowpath spaced apart therealong and located at positions where the flowpath is wide in cross section.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 76 words
A separator according to any preceding claim in the form of a core (79) with one or a plurality of flowpath defining channels (80-85) formed therein and a surrounding sleeve (91) to define the outermost walls of the flowpath or flowpaths, the sleeve comprising one or two sleeve members (91a, 91b) provided with a plurality of apertures (70-75) corresponding to at least said first plurality of outlets and optionally said second and/or third plurality of outlets.
