Abstract
Abstract @ A brake mechanism for a pair of reels of a tape cassette includes a base member (82) slidable in a guideway (52) in a direction extending between the pair of reels. A pair of stopper members or arms (84, 86) are hinged (88, 90) on the base member (82) and extend away therefrom for arbitrarily engaging with teeth (24, 26) on flanges (20, 22) of the reels. The base block (82) includes a spring hold pin (96) to which is anchored a spring (100) which urges the stopper members (84, 86) towards the teeth (24, 26) to lock the reels in position.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
153 words
L. A brake mechanism for a tape cassette having a cassette housing (10) and a pair of tape reels (16, 18) on which a recording tape (36) is wound, sach tape reel (16, 18) being provided with a flange (20, 22) having teeth (24, 26) on an outer periphery thereof, the brake mechanism comprising: a base member (82) slidable in a direction extending between the pair jf tape reels (16, 18); a spring hold pin (96) provided on the base member (82); a pair of stopper members (84, 86) hinged on the base member (82) and extending away from the base member for arbitrarily engaging with the teeth (24, 26) of the flanges (20, 22) for braking purposes; and a spring (100) anchored at the spring hold pin (96) of the base member 82) for urging the pair of stopper members (84, 86) towards the teeth (24, 26) of the flanges (20, 22).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
37 words
A brake mechanism according to claim 1, wherein the base member (82), the spring hold pin (96) and the pair of stopper members (84, 86) are made of synthetic resin and are formed simultaneously by injection moulding.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
36 words
A brake mechanism according to claim 2, wherein each of the pair of stopper members (84, 86) has a thin portion (88, 90) at its root for achieving a hinge joint with the base member (82).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
24 words
A brake mechanism according to claim 3, wherein the pair of stopper members (84, 86) extend from respective sides of the base member (82).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
74 words
A brake mechanism according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the spring (100) is a torsion spring having a coiled portion (102) and a pair of arms (104, 106) extending from the coiled portion (102), the coiled portion (102) is anchored at the spring hold pin (96), and each of the pair of arms (104, 106) is engaged with a free end of a respective one of the stopper members (84, 86).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
38 words
A brake mechanism according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the stopper members (84, 86) are arranged to engage with teeth on the outer peripheries of lower flanges (20, 22) of the tape reels (16, 18).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
27 words
A brake mechanism according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the spring hold pin (96) is provided on the top of the base member (82).
