Abstract
Abstract Novel chiral liquid crystalline compounds having an optically active group are of the general formula wherein R is a linear or branched alkyl of 1 to 18 C; ℓ is 0 or 1; X is COO or -0- in the case of ℓ = 0 and COO, -O- or -CH 2 - in the case of ℓ = 1; and represents optically active carbon. and when used in a display element bring about a higher response velocity. The racemic compounds are also useful in liquid crystal compositions.
