Abstract
Abstract A semiconductor memory device including word lines (WL), bit lines, and memory cells (in MCA1, MCA2) located at each cross point therebetween, wherein each of the word lines (WL) is divided to form segmented word lines (WL1, WL2). Each of the word line segments is driven by an individual private word driver (Qwd1, Qwd2). The individual private word drivers are activated together in response to a word selection signal.

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
44 words
A device as set forth in claim 1, wherein each of said first and following individual private word drivers is made of a single word driver transistor, the single word driver transistor being directly connected, at its base, to the preceding word line segment.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
73 words
A device as set forth in claim 2, wherein level shifting means are mounted for shifting downward the bit line voltage levels relative to the voltage levels of the second word line segment and the following word line segments, so that a reduced voltage difference, due to the presence of said word driver transistors, between each word line segment voltage and each bit line voltage can be restored by the level shifting means.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim

A device as set forth in claim 5, wherein said diode is connected to a bit driver transistor at its base in each of said bit drivers pertaining to said second word line segment and. said series connected diodes are connected to a bit driver transistor at its base in.each of said other bit drivers pertaining to the following word line segments, where there are (n-1) series connected diodes in the n-th word line segment.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
78 words
A device as set forth in claim 1, wherein each of said first and following individual private word drivers is made of a single word driver transistor, the single word driver transistor being connected, at its base and by way of a buffer gate circuit, to the preceding word line segment, so as to transfer a high level voltage of the preceding word line segment as a voltage of the same magnitude to the following word line segment.
