Abstract
Abstract Anapparatusforthemanufactureofselectivelyapettured thermoplastic sheet or film, comprising a rotatable molding element means for receiving the film and which means has a predetermined pattern therein wherein as the film is contacted with the rotatable molding element means and a fluid pressure differential is applied to the surface of the film, a desired pattern of perforated areas and non-perforated areas are imparted tothe film with each of said areas being continuous across the web of the film and alternating in the machine direction.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
88 words
An apparatus for the manufacture of selectively apertured thermoplastic sheet or film, comprising a rotatable molding element means for receiving the film and which means has a predetermined pattern therein wherein as the film is contacted with the rotatable molding element means and a fluid pressure differential is applied to the surface of the film, a desired pattern of perforated areas and non-perforated areas are imparted to the film with each of said areas being continuous across the web of the film and alternating in the machine direction.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
88 words
An apparatus for the manufacture of selectively apertured thermoplastic sheet or film, comprising a rotatable molding element means for receiving the film and which means has a predetermined pattern therein wherein as the film is contacted with the rotatable molding element means and a fluid pressure differential is applied to the surface of the film, a desired pattern of perforated areas and non-perforated areas are imparted to the film with each of said areas being continuous across the web of the film and alternating in the machine direction.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
60 words
The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein said rotatable molding element means comprises a cylindrically shaped screen having a plurality of openings therein arranged in a predetermined pattern and a means for providing localized restriction of airflow through the screen whereby the application of a reduction of vacuum results in a continuously patterned, selectively apertured film of a desired repetitive pattern.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
25 words
The apparatus of Claim 2, wherein said means for providing restriction of the airflow through the screen is a fine-mesh thin airflow restrictor sheet material.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
16 words
The apparatus of Claim 3, wherein said restrictor sheet material is spunbonded-nonwoven breathable thermally resistant materials.
Claim 6
Independent Claim
159 words
A method of manufacturting a selectively apertured thermoplastic sheet or film comprising: a. providing a rotatable molding element means for receiving thermoplastic film, said molding element means having a predetermined pattern therein wherein as said film is contacted with said molding element means and a fluid pressure differential is placed on the surface of the film, said pattern is imparted to the film; b. rotating said molding element means; c. contacting the rotatable molding element means with the film and applying a fluid pressure differential to the surface of said thermoplastic film to force said film against said molding element means to effect perforation of said sheet and the formation of holes in said sheet in said pre-determined pattern; and, d. continuously removing from said molding element means a film having a desired pattern of perforated areas and non-perforated areas with each of said areas being continuous across the web of the film and alternating in the machine direction.
Claim 7
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
27 words
The process of Claim 5, wherein said thermoplastic film is heated to soften said film prior to said film coming into contact with said molding element means.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
20 words
The process of Claim 5, wherein said perforated and non-perforated film is cooled immediately after leaving the molding element means.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
22 words
The process of Claim 5, wherein the perforations in the film in the perforated area thereof are of a predetermined geometrical shape.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
11 words
The process of Claim 5, wherein the film is a polyolefin.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim
10 words
The process of Claim 5, wherein the film is polyethylene.
