Abstract

Abstract An apparatus for plant cultivation includes a sealed dark chamber (10) and a sealed lighted chamber (30) which accommodate a root portion and a stem and leaf portion of a plant (P) respectively. The lighted chamber (30) is defined by a transparent housing above the dark chamber (10) and the lighting is provided by optical fibers. The dark chamber (10) is supplied with nourishment, oxygen and the like, while the lighted chamber (30) is supplied with C0 2 -containing air which is controlled to a predetermined temperature and humidity. The supply of light occurs on a scheduled basis in accordance with a state of stomata of the plant (P).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 15
Claim 1
Independent Claim 71 words
An apparatus for cultivating a plant, comprising: a base member for supporting a plant, said base member having a sealed dark chamber defined therein in which a root portion of the plant is accommodated; a support assembly for supporting a stem and leaf portion of the plant which protrudes upwardly from the base member; and lighting means for supplying light for photosynthesis to the stem and leaf portion of the plant.
Claim 2
Independent Claim 71 words
An apparatus for cultivating a plant, comprising: a base member for supporting a plant, said base member having a sealed dark chamber defined therein in which a root portion of the plant is accommodated; a support assembly for supporting a stem and leaf portion of the plant which protrudes upwardly from the base member; and lighting means for supplying light for photosynthesis to the stem and leaf portion of the plant.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 45 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, in which the lighting means comprises a light source, a transparent tubular member, and an optical fiber extending in and along said tubular member and optically interconnected to the light source, the support assembly comprising said tubular member.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 2, in which the lighting means further comprises an elongate transparent element extending in and along the tubular member and having a substantially triangular cross-section, the optical fiber being laid on a side of said triangular elongate element.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 15 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 2, in which the light source is the sun.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 17 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 2, in which the light source is an artificial light source.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 33 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, further compris- i ng a transparent housing for enclosing the support assembly and the lighting means to define a sealed lighted chamber above the base member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 23 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 6, in which air containing a high concentration of nitrogen oxide is fed into the lighted chamber.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 21 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 6, further comprising a curtain for selectively screening the housing from externally derived light rays.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 22 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, further comprising means for supplying at least culture liquid and air to the dark chamber.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 19 words
An apparatus as claimed in claim 1, in which the supply of light from the lighting means occurs intermittently.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 102 words
A system for cultivating a plant comprising: a plurality of plant cultivating apparatuses each comprising a base member for supporting a plant, the base member having a sealed dark chamber defined therein in which a root portion of the plant is accommodated, a support assembly for supporting a stem and leaf portion of the plant which protrude upwardly from the base member, and lighting means for supplying light for photosynthesis to the stem and leaf portion of the plant; said plant cultivating apparatuses being controlled such that the lighting means thereof are alternately activated to emit light toward the plants associated therewith.
Claim 13
Claim 14
Dependent Claim 21 words
A system as claimed in claim 11, in which the sealed dark chamber is shared by all the plant cultivating apparatuses.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 28 words
A system as claimed in claim 11, in which any of the plant cultivating apparatuses which is not supplied with light is screened from externally derived light rays.
