Abstract
Abstract A connector for mounting a planar leadless electronic package (100) on a substrate (300) comprises a housing (1) carrying elastomeric contact structures (200), and a spring lid (7) which in use engages a package (100) in the connector and urges it towards the substrate (300), the lid (7) having portions (11) which engage with bolts (12) by which the connector is secured to the substrate (300) whereby the housing (1) is relieved of forces in the lid (7).

Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim
199 words
An electrical connector for mounting a planar leadless electronic component package (100) on a substrate (300), comprising a housing (1) of electrically insulating material carrying a plurality of electrical contacts (200) providing first contact points for engagement with conductors on the package (100) and second contact points for engagement with conductors on the substrate (300), and a lid (7) which when connected to the housing (1) in a closed condition (Figure 7) serves to urge a package (100) mounted on the housing (1), into contact with the first contact points of the contacts, and to secure the package (100) to the connector, characterised in that the housing 11) is formed at its periphery with a plurality of holes (6) each to receive a bolt (12) by which the connector is to be secured to the substrate (300), the lid (7) being in the form of a spring member having a plurality of forked portions (11) engageable under the heads of respective bolts (12) when securing the connector to the substrate (300) and having hold-down portions (9) resilient relative to the forked portions (11) and arranged to engage the package (100) and hold the package (100) on the housing (1).

Claim 3
Dependent Claim
88 words
A connector as claimed in Claim 1, characterised in that the lid (7) comprises an inner planar frame (8) formed by side strips (9) which in use serve as package hold-down portions, each side strip (9) carrying outside the frame (8) a pair of oppositely extending arms (10) which extend parallel to the side strip (9) and upwardly relative to the plane of the frame (8), adjacent free end portions (11) of the arms (10) together constituting the forked portions engageable under the heads of the bolts (12).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
41 words
A connector as claimed in Claim 2, characterised in that the free end portions (11) of the arms (10) are each formed with a hole (14) accessible when the portion (11) is engaged under the head of the associated bolt (12).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
44 words
A connector as claimed in Claim 1, Claim 2 or Claim 3, characterised in that the housing (1) is formed with upstanding ribs (5) about which the forked portions (11) of the lid (7) engage, the bolt-receiving holes (6) passing through the ribs (5).
