Claim 2
Dependent Claim 385 words
An NC machining method for machining a workpiece (140) with a primary cutter (20) in a primary machining mode and then machining workpiece portions (22, 24) remaining to be cut with a compensation cutter (26) in a compensation machining mode to thereby produce a desired final cut shape, said NC machining method comprising the steps of: machining the workpiece (140) with said primary cutter (20) and entering data on the shape of the workpiece, the desired final cut shape, and the shape of the primary cutter (20) into an NC apparatus; characterised by: determining the workpiece portions (22, 24) remaining to be cut with said compensation cutter (26) based on said entered data by determining the workpiece portions to be cut to achieve the final desired shape from data on the desired final cut shape and the shape of the workpiece (140), and effecting an arithmetical operation using the data of the determined workpiece portions to be cut to achieve the final desired shape and a cutting angle of 0 of the primary cutter (20), to calculate the work positions (22, 24) remaining to be cut with said compensation cutter (26); selecting a compensation cutter (26) suitable for cutting off said work portions (22, 24) remaining to be cut with said compensation cutter (26) in the compensation machining mode; setting data on the depth of cut (d) and the clearance (a) of said compensation cutter (26) into said NC apparatus; determining paths of travel (1 1 -l N ) of said compensation cutter (26) by the steps of: computing first and second points of intersection (A, B) between the desired final cut shape and a workpiece shape cut by the primary cutter (20); determining whether there are such points of intersection (A, B); computing paths of travel (1 I -1 N ) of the compensation cutter (26) for cutting off the work portions (22, 24) remaining to be cut with said compensation cutter (26) between the first and second points of intersection (A, B); effecting operations to determine the paths of travel of said compensation cutter until no points of intersection (A, B) are found with respect to the desired final cut shape; and cutting off said work portions (22, 24) remaining to be cut with said compensation cutter (26) using said compensation cutter (26).
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
An NC machining method according to claim 1, wherein said data on said shapes are entered in the form of coordinates.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 54 words
An NC machining method according to claim 1, wherein said paths of travel (L I -L N ) of the compensation cutter (26) are determined by subtracting the depth of cut (d) of the compensation cutter (26) form the first point of intersection (A), repeatedly, until the second point of intersection (B) is reached.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 35 words
An NC machining method according to claim 3, wherein said depth of cut (d) is subtracted from the difference between the coordinates of the first and second points of intersection (A, B) on the X-axis.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 79 words
An NC machining method according to claim 4, wherein said paths of travel (L,-L N ) of the compensation cutter (26) are defined by the repeated steps of moving the compensation cutter (26) by the depth of cut (d) along the X-axis, enabling the compensation cutter to cut the workpiece up to the coordinate of the final cut shape on a Z-axis, and spacing the compensation cutter (26) from the workpiece by a distance corresponding to the clearance (a).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 33 words
An NC machining method according to claim 1, wherein said paths of travel (L,-L N ) of the compensation cutter (26) are determined after the primary cutter (20) has machined the workpiece (140).
