Abstract

Abstract The dental jacket crown of the present invention is prepared from a thin metal foil substrate which is coated with a noble based metal composition having a low fusing temperature and folded in a predetermined manner to form multiple folds in the form of triangular like flaps or pleats (22). The folded foil represents the coping (16) of the present invention. The coping (16) is mounted over a die of the prepared tooth and the flaps (22) wrapped in overlapping formation and then adapted to the die. The die is removed and the structure heated preferably under a bunsen burner. A bonding material may be coated over the free standing structure if desired. A veneering material such as procelain is then coated over the structure to form the crown.

A dental coping for a jacket crown restoration characterized by comprising a thin foil (12) of high fusing temperature metal arranged in a prefolded geometrical configuration having a multiple number of folds (22) each having a least two fold lines (18) and a coating (14) of a noble based metal composition superimposed upon one surface of said thin foil (12).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 60 words
A dental coping for a jacket crown restoration characterized by comprising a thin foil (12) of high fusing temperature metal arranged in a prefolded geometrical configuration having a multiple number of folds (22) each having a least two fold lines (18) and a coating (14) of a noble based metal composition superimposed upon one surface of said thin foil (12).
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 17 words
A dental coping as defined in Claim 5 wherein said thin foil (12) is circular in shape.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 45 words
A dental coping as defined in anyone of Claims 5-6 wherein said fold lines (18) radially extend from an unfolded area (20) substantially in the center of said coping with the unfolded area (20) being small compared to the total area of the foil (12).
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 19 words
A dental coping as defined in anyone of Claims 5-7 wherein said thin foil (12) is composed of platinum.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 26 words
A dental coping as defined in anyone of Claims 5-8 further comprising a plurality of small slotted openings (26) arranged about the periphery of said coping.
Claim 12
Independent Claim 170 words
A method of forming a dental jacket crown characterized in the steps of preparing a thin metal foil (12) of high fusing temperature metal into a substantially circular substrate; coating one surface of the foil substrate (12) with a noble based metal (14) having a lower fusing temperature than that of the metal foil substrate (12); forming a multiple number of fold lines (18) in said coated foil substrate (10) to form an undulating surface geometry containing multiple folds (22); mounting said coated foil substrate (10) over a die (28) of the prepared tooth with the coated surface exposed; partially overlapping each fold (22) about said die in a clockwise or counterclockwise sequence with the foil (10) tightly wrapped about said die (28); adapting said tightly wrapped foil (10) to said die (28); removing said die (28) for providing an inner structure for said jacket crown; heating said inner structure above the low fusing temperature of said noble based metal composition; and coating a veneering material over said inner structure.
