Abstract

Abstract An electrical contact (4) to be inserted into a plated hole (10) through a circuit board (12) includes a mounting portion (8) formed from a thin spline (2) having outer edges (30,32) and a central slit (24) defining inner edges (26, 28) adjacent the slit (24) which are offset with respet to the outer edges (30, 32) in a direction transverse to the plane of the spline (2) to define outwardly radiused blades (20, 22) which increase the thickness of the spline (2) and provide curved contact surfaces (38, 40) between the ends of the spline and the inner (26, 28) and outer edges (30, 32) of the blades (20, 22).

Claim 1
Independent Claim 113 words
A resilient contact (4) including a body portion (6) and a deformed mounting portion (8) for insertion and retention in a hole, said mounting portion (8) comprising a thin spline (2) having outer edges (30, 32) and a central slit (24) defining inner edges (26, 28) adjacent said slit (24) which are oppositely offset with respect to said outer edges (30, 32) and the plane of said spline (2) in directions transverse to said plane to define opposed blades (20, 22) which increase the thickness of said spline (2) and provide opposite contact surfaces (38, 40) between the ends of said spline (2) and said inner (26, 28) and outer edges (30, 32).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 113 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 36 words
A contact (4) according to claim 1 wherein said offset of said inner edges (26, 28) increases from the ends of said slit (24) to bow said blades (20, 22) away from said body portion (6).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
A contact (4) according to claim 1 or 2 wherein said blades (20, 22) are curved oppositely and away from each other between said inner (26, 28) and outer edges (30, 32).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 30 words
A contact (4) according to claim 3 wherein said blades (20, 22) are curved in an arc of a circle between said inner (26, 28) and outer edges (30, 32).
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 76 words
A resilient contact (4) including a mounting portion (8) for frictional engagement and electrical contact with a hole, which mounting portion (8) comprising a spline (2) having a central slit (24) defining inner edges (26, 28) which are increasingly and oppositely offset from the ends of the said slit (24) in a plane containing said slit (24) to define two bowed blades (20, 22) oriented at substantially 45 degrees to said plane containing said slit (24).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 76 words
