Primer for coatings containing fluorocarbon polymers with an amount of poly(arylene sulfide) resin, aromatic polyether sulfone resin or aromatic polyether ketone resin, and use thereof
Abstract
A primer is described which is particularly suitable for coatings made from fluorocarbon polymers, consisting essentially of a) 100 parts by weight of a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene, perfluoro (alkylvinyl) ether and optionally hexafluoropropylene or vinylidene fluoride, b) 10 to 250 parts by weight of a mixture of lithium hydroxide and finely divided, thermally produced silicon dioxide, c) 10 to 1000 parts by weight of at least one thermoplastic resin from the group of polyarylene sulfide resins, aromatic polyether sulfone resins, and aromatic polyether ketone resins, and d) water as a liquid carrier. Up to 80 parts by weight of component a) can optionally be replaced by dispersed polytetrafluoroethylene particles. The primer is particularly suitable for application to objects with uneven surfaces, as its adhesion is still sufficient even in thicker layers. It is used for the coating of both metallic and non-metallic substrates, after which a cover layer made of a fluorocarbon polymer is applied without the need for an intermediate heat treatment.
