Abstract

Abstract A unitary, one-piece, plurality of intermediate (throw-away) dilution cups for the turntable transport (T) on a spectrophotometer analyzer (S). The cups (18) are moulded together, side-by-side, in a circular arc, preferably five cups per arc, in a one-piece, multi-cup unit. Each one-piece arc unit of five cups may be detachably secured to the radially outer row of reaction cups on the transport (T) by means of a pair of spaced radial arms (22,24) extending radially outward from the outer side of the five cup arc unit, such arms (22,24) being positionable in the space (28,29) between adjacent reaction cups. Formed on the outer end of each arm (22,24) is a vertical rod (32,34) of larger width than the space between the reaction cups, thus enabling the arc unit of five dilution cups to be detachable "hooked on" to the reaction cups. Each dilution cup is formed of highly polished materials and each cup has a concave floor thus ensuring positive central bottom positioning of a minute quantity of fluid therein to achieve complete mixing of the dispensed fluids. A novel configuration of the reaction cup (180) itself is also disclosed.

Claim 2
Dependent Claim 51 words
A spectrophotometer analyzer having a turntable transport with an outer circle of spaced reaction cups and a spaced inner circle of sample cups, characterized by an intermediate circle of dilution cups formed of a plurality of unitary multi-cup one-piece . arc units disposed between the inner and outer circles of cups.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 29 words
An analyzer as claimed in claim 1, wherein each multi-cup arc unit has securing means thereon for detachably securing the arc unit to the outer circle of reaction cups.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
An analyzer as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein said intermediate circle of dilution cups and said outer circle of reaction cups are formed as a single, unitary, one-piece unit. -
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 118 words
An analyzer as claimed in claim 2, wherein each reaction cup has a horizontal flange encircling its outer surface and spaced from the top of each reaction cup, and said securing means includes a pair of spaced radial arms extending radially outward from the outer side of each multi-cup arc unit for positioning in the respective spaces between corresponding reaction cups in the outer circle, each arm having a vertical rod on its outer end of larger width than the space between adjacent reaction cups, thereby enabling the multi-cup arc unit to be detachably hooked on to the outer circle of reaction cups with the lower outer edge of the arc unit resting on the reaction cup flanges.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 40 words
A dilution cup for use in the analyzer of any preceding claim, comprising a cup having a concave floor enabling positive concentrated bottom positioning of a minute quantity of fluid in the cup to achieve complete mixing of the fluids.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 18 words
A dilution cup as claimed in claim 5, wherein the cup is formed of a highly polished material,
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 30 words
A dilution cup as claimed in claim 5,wherein the floor of the cup is formed of four downwardly sloping coacting planar floor sections formed together to provide a concave floor.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 38 words
A dilution cup arrangement for use .in the analyzer of any one of claims 1 to 4, comprising a unitary structure having a plurality of cavities disposed in side-by-side relationship forming a one-piece multi-cavity partially circular arc unit.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 25 words
An arrangement as claimed in claim 8, which is formed of a highly polished material enabling positive downward flow of all fluid in the cavities.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 18 words
lO. An arrangement as claimed in claim 8 or 9, wherein each arc unit has five cavities therein.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 20 words
An arrangement as claimed in any one of claims 8 to 10, wherein the floor of each cavity is concave.
Claim 13

Claim 14
Dependent Claim 20 words
An arrangement as claimed in any one of claims 8 to 12, wherein the cavities are approximately elliptical in cross-section.
Claim 15
Dependent Claim 127 words
A vertically disposed reaction cup for use in the analyzer of any one of claims 1 to 4, adapted to receive a downwardly directed stream of liquid, wherein the stream of liquid includes at least two chemically distinct components which are to be mixed in the reaction cup, the reaction cup including a generally vertical upstanding wall of continuous annular extent, the reaction cup being open at the top, the bottom interior of the reaction cup having a flat portion at its centre, the periphery of said interior portion being joined to the lower wall portion by a sloping portion, the angle of the sloping portion with the horizontal being less than about 45°, whereby splash, with resultant incomplete mixing of the distinct chemical components, is inhibited.
Claim 16
Dependent Claim 18 words
A reaction cup as claimed in claim 14, wherein the angle of the sloping portion is about 35°.
