Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 10
Claim 1
Independent Claim
81 words
A method for selecting the gain to be applied to successive samplings of an analog signal so as to raise the amplitude of each sampled signal to a desired level, comprising the steps of: a) sampling said analog signal at predetermined time intervals, b) identifying the voltage level of each of said sampled signals, and c) selecting the gain to be applied to each of said sampled signals in response to the identified voltage level of each of said sampled signals.
Claim 2
Independent Claim
81 words
A method for selecting the gain to be applied to successive samplings of an analog signal so as to raise the amplitude of each sampled signal to a desired level, comprising the steps of: a) sampling said analog signal at predetermined time intervals, b) identifying the voltage level of each of said sampled signals, and c) selecting the gain to be applied to each of said sampled signals in response to the identified voltage level of each of said sampled signals.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
24 words
The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of producing a signal representing the selected gain applied to each of said sampled signals.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
28 words
The method of claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the lower voltage level sample signals are amplified to a greater extent than the higher voltage level sampled signals.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
67 words
An amplifier system comprising: a) means for sampling an analog signal at predetermined time intervals. b) amplifying means to which each of said sampled signals are sequentially applied and having a plurality of selectable gain settings, and c) switching means which selects the gain setting for said amplifying means in response to the voltage level for the particular sampled signal being concurrently applied to said amplifying means.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
67 words
An amplifier system comprising: a) means for sampling an analog signal at predetermined time intervals. b) amplifying means to which each of said sampled signals are sequentially applied and having a plurality of selectable gain settings, and c) switching means which selects the gain setting for said amplifying means in response to the voltage level for the particular sampled signal being concurrently applied to said amplifying means.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
59 words
The amplifier system of claim 4 wherein: a) said amplifying means includes a plurality of individual amplifiers, one such amplifier corresponding to each of said plurality of selectable gain settings, and b) said switching means selects the output of the individual amplifier which has a desired gain for the particular sampled signal being concurrently applied to said amplifying means.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
31 words
The amplifier system of claim 4 or claim 5 wherein the gain applied to the lower voltage level signals is greater than the gain applied to the higher voltage level signals.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
40 words
The amplifier system of any one of claims 4 to 6 wherein each of a plurality of said selectable gain settings is represented by the binary expression 2 N , N being an integer selected to achieve a desired gain.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
28 words
The amplifier system of any one of claims 4 to 7 wherein each of a plurality of said selectable gain settings represents a gain of at least 6db.
