Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 61 words
A process for imparting antimicrobial properties to a material, said process comprising: (a) applying an external binder system to said material, said external binder system comprising a salt of at least one monocarboxylate antimicrobial agent or mixtures thereof: (b) applying a waterproofing treatment to said material, said treatment comprising at least one substantially nonantimicrobial proton donor; and (c) drying said material.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 61 words
A process for imparting antimicrobial properties to a material, said process comprising: (a) applying an external binder system to said material, said external binder system comprising a salt of at least one monocarboxylate antimicrobial agent or mixtures thereof: (b) applying a waterproofing treatment to said material, said treatment comprising at least one substantially nonantimicrobial proton donor; and (c) drying said material.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 16 words
A process according to Claim 1 wherein said material is a nonwoven fabric comprising cellulosic fibers.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 27 words
A process according to either one of Claims 1 & 2 wherein said monocarboxylate antimicrobial agent comprises a C 3 -C 12 alkane, alkene, or alkyne monocarboxylate.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 29 words
A process according to any one of Claims 1-3 wherein said monocarboxylate antimicrobial agent comprises a C 6 -C 10 preferably a C 8 or C 10 n-alkane monocarboxylate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 43 words
A process according to any one of Claims 1-4 wherein said waterproofing treatment is an aqueous emulsion and said substantially nonantimicrobial proton donor is an acid selected from citric acid, tartaric acid, malic acid, malonic 'acid, ascorbic acid, barbituric acid, and mixtures thereof.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 78 words
A process according to any one of Claims 1-5 wherein said external binder system is an aqueous latex emulsion applied such that a deposition of from 0.1 g/m 2 to 20 g/m 2 of said antimicrobial agent is provided on said material, said material is dried prior to said application of water- proofing treatment, and said Waterproofing treatment application provides a deposition of from 0.1 g/m 2 to 20 g/m 2 of said proton donor on said material.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 81 words
A process according to Claim 6 wherein from 2 g/m 2 to 20 g/m 2 preferably from 5 to 10 g/m 2 of said antimicrobial agent is deposited on said nonwoven fabric and from 1 g/m 2 to 2 0 g/m 2 preferably from 3 g/m 2 to 10 g/m 2 is deposited on said nonwoven fabric such that the surface pH of said nonwoven fabric when wetted after step (c) is from 2.8 to 5.0 preferably from 3.0 to 4.0.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 18 words
A nonwoven fabric having anti microbial properties imparted in accordance with the process of any one-of Claims 1-7.
