Claims Analysis
Total Claims: 5
Claim 1
Independent Claim
177 words
A method of forming a magnetic recording structure including a 2-dimensional array of magnetic heads consisting of a plurality of columns (C1-4) of heads respective heads of said columns being staggered at a first angle relative to the intended relative direction of movement between the structure and the recording medium and the head of each column being staggered at a second angle comprising the steps of providing a substrate (10) for mounting the heads, providing a plurality of slots (26, 27, 28, 29) in a surface (15) of the substrate, providing a strip (30; 31) of magnetic material in each slot, making shallow parallel first cuts (B-cuts) across the strips at an angle with regard to said strips corresponding to the second stagger angle to form slots (16) representing magnetic recording gaps and the edges of the magnetic head poles remote from the gaps making deeper parallel second cuts (C-Cuts, D-cuts) across the strips to divide the magnetic material into individual magnetic heads the angle between the second and first cuts corresponding to the first stagger angle.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
33 words
A method as in claim 1 further comprising the step of making parallel intermediate-depth cuts (C-cuts) across the strips to remove upper strip portions which are not required to form magnetic head poles.
Claim 4
Independent Claim
67 words
A method as in any preceding claim further comprising the step of adding two sets of wiring, a set of bit lines and a set of word lines, each magnetic recording gap having one bit line and one word line passing through it, whereby each magnetic head may be activated by coincident energisation of its bit and word lines with currents in the same direction in each.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
67 words
A method as in claim 3, in which the wiring is arranged such that each pair of bit and word lines passes through two magnetic recording gaps, the two gaps being distinguished by the fact that wiring through one gap is such that the direction of current flow through one of the lines is reversed relative to the current flow through that line through the other gap.
