Abstract

Abstract A wound dressing comprising a conformable, moisture vapor permeable, liquid water impermeable first layer containing perforation means and an imperforate, conformable, liquid water impermeable, moisture vapor permeable second layer attached to the first layer and overlaying the perforation means of the first layer and forming a reservoir into which wound exudate passes and is evaporated form.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 13
Claim 1
Independent Claim 166 words
A wound dressing comprising: (a) a first layer for placing over a wound which is conformable to animal anatomical surfaces, has a moisture vapor permeability of at least 300 grams per square meter per 24 hours at an 80% relative humidity differential at 40°C, is impermeable to liquid water throughout substantially its entire imperforate area, and contains perforation means for passing wound exudate through said first layer, and (b) a second layer which is imperforate, is conformable to animal anatomical surfaces, is impermeable to liquid water, and has a moisture vapor permeability of at least 600 grams per square meter per 24 hours at an 80% relative humidity differential at 40°C, said second layer overlaying said perforation means of said first layer and being attached to said first layer on the side opposite to that which contacts the wound and in an area surrounding said perforation means to provide a reservoir into which exudate from a wound can pass and be at least partially evaporated therefrom.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 166 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 18 words
The wound dressing of claim 1 which includes means for attaching said wound dressing to animal anatomical surfaces.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 32 words
The wound dressing of clalm 2 wherein said means for attaching said wound dressing to anatomical surfaces comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive on the side of saic first layer contacting the wound,
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
The wound dressing of clalm 2 wherein said means for attaching said wound dressing to anatomical surfaces comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive on the side of saic first layer contacting the wound,
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 15 words
The wound dressing of claim 1 wherein said second layer is a thin polymeric film.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 39 words
The wound dressing of claim 3 wherein said first layer is a thin polymeric film containing said perforation means and has pressure sensitive adhesive on the wound contacting surface thereof and said second layer is a thin polymeric film.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 20 words
The wound dressing of claim 5 wherein said first layer contains portions extending beyond the periphery of said second layer.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 76 words
The wound dressing of claim 6 which includes a release liner attached to the adhesive-containing surface of said first layer, and a releasable layer attached to the surface of said first layer opposite to the surface containing said pressure sensitive adhesive and attached to said peripheral portions of said first layer, said releasable layer being attached to said first layer more tenaciously than the release liner is attached to the adhesive surface of said first layer.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 21 words
The wound dressing of claim 7 in which said releasable layer contains a perforation which is larger than said second layer.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 24 words
A roll of wound dressings of claim 4 wherein there is a release liner attached to the adhesive containing surface of said first layer.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 68 words
The wound dressing of claim 3 wherein said second layer comprises an upper portion of polymeric imperforate film attached to a lower portion of polymeric imperforate film at the periphery of each, said lower portion being attached to said first layer around the periphery of said perforation means in said first layer and said first portion containing perforation means corresponding to the perforation means in said first layer.
Claim 13
Dependent Claim 28 words
The wound dressing of claim 1 wherein the reservoir in said wound dressing contains a member selected from the group comprising medicament, an absorbent material and mixtures thereof.
