Abstract

Abstract An inverter (11) has complementary field effect transistors (Q 11 , Q 12 ) driving a capacitive load (C L ). In order to reduce the peak power supply current (I DD ) during switching - which can be quite large owing to the charging current into the load (Cd - an auxiliary circuit (12) charges (via Q 16 ) an auxiliary capacitor (C A ) during steady-state conditions and discharges it (via Q 15 , Q 14 ) into the load (C L ) during switching. A second auxiliary circuit (13) may be included to increase the current drawn directly from the power supply after the auxiliary capacitor (C A ) has discharged into the load (C L ).
