Device for joining the extremities of two submarine fibre-optical cables, and process for its manufacture
Abstract
Device for joining the ends of two optical fiber submarine cables, each comprising an optical core (1, 1 ') a vault (2, 2') of steel wires wrapped around it, a copper tube (3 , 3 ') shrunk on the roof, an insulating sheath (4, 4'), an aluminum return conductor (14, 14 ') and another insulating sheath (16, 16'). The central part of the device comprises a mandrel (5) around which the optical fibers are wound and a container tube (6) surrounding said mandrel with clearance. The lateral parts include a metal anchoring part (8, 8 ') pierced on one side with a conical bore (9, 9') for the development of the steel wires and on the other with a cylindrical bore (10, 10 ') for the housing of the copper tube, a conical ring (11, 11') for holding the steel wires, a filling in hardenable resin (12, 12 ') of the conical bore and a closure molding (13, 13 ') which provides the connection between the insulating sheath (4, 4') of the cable and the insulating sheath (7) of the tube.
