L'élément chauffant constituant le dispositif d'initiation consiste en une résistance de type couche épaisse constituée par exemple d'une encre conductrice polymérisée (6) placée au contact de la charge pyrotechnique (2) et reliée à deux électrodes (8,9). Cet initiateur est destiné à l'allumage de la charge propulsive d'une munition de moyen calibre. On peint également l'utiliser pour les tubes porte amorce de gros calibre, les détonateurs électriques pour fusée d'obus ou encore les inflammateurs pour missiles et roquettes.
