Abstract

Abstract The slides enable the fore-and-aft position of a seat in a vehicle to be adjusted. A lower slide (11) is of generally channel section with sides which bend inwardly at (31) over ears (28) formed at the ends of the bar of the inverted 'T' section of the other slide (14). The ears and the turned-over portions are normally just out of contact with each other. Tracks for balls (29) are defined between the ears and the turned-over portions of the channel sides. There is no relative sliding but only rolling during normal fore-and-aft adjustment, but if excessive load is experienced in a collision deformation of the slides can occur, until the ears come into contact with the turned over portions (31) to provide resistance against further destruction of the slides along the whole overlapping length of the slides.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 174 words
A vehicle slide pair comprising a first slide member (11) having a generally U-shaped channel cross section with a base (15) and side arms (16,17), and a second slide member (14) having a generally T-shaped cross-section, the bar (21) of which'is opposed to the base of the U (15) and the vertical part of which comprises a vertical attachment flange (22), the first and second slide members being assembled together for relative longitudinal movement, the ends of the bar of the T-cross-section of the second slide member being turned back to define ears (28) and the arms of U cross-section of the first slide member being turned inwards (at 31) and over the.ears (28); characterised by ball bearings (29) interposed between the bends of. the ears and the bar within the ends of the ears on the one hand, and the turned-inwards parts of the U arms beyond the ends of the ears on the other hand; and characterised in that the turned-inwards arms (16,17) are closely spaced from the ends of the ears (28).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 174 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 44 words
A slide pair as claimed in Claim 1 characterised by rollers (19) in a race defined by a first roller track formed by the base (15) of the U and a second track formed by the opposed part of the bar of the T.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 26 words
A slide pair as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 in which the channels have been slightly deformed to accommodate the balls and/or the rollers.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 66 words
A slide pair as claimed in any preceding claim in which the first of the slide members has a series of notches (31) for engagement with a trigger (32) on the other slide member to hold the slide members located in one of a number of possible relative longitudinal positions, the notches being in the base (15) or the.turned-over parts (31) of the first slide member.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 29 words
A slide pair as claimed in Claim 4 in which mechanism for operating the trigger is positioned in a-space defined by a gap in the bar of the 'T'.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 61 words
A slide pair as claimed-in Claim 4 or Claim 5 which includes an operating member for the trigger which comprises a pair of wires or rods (48) arranged to extend transversely to the slide members with one wire in a hole (50) in one slide member constituting a pivot, and the other wire in a slot (52) in that slide member.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 95 words
A vehicle slide pair comprising first and second slide members (11,14) one of which has a series of notches (31) for engagement with a trigger (32) on the other to hold the slide members located in one of a number of possible relative longitudinal position, characterised in that an operating member for the trigger comprises a pair of wires or rods (48) arranged to extend transversely to the slide members with one wire in a hole (50) in one slide member constituting a pivot, and the other wire in a slot (52) in that slide member.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 95 words
A vehicle slide pair comprising first and second slide members (11,14) one of which has a series of notches (31) for engagement with a trigger (32) on the other to hold the slide members located in one of a number of possible relative longitudinal position, characterised in that an operating member for the trigger comprises a pair of wires or rods (48) arranged to extend transversely to the slide members with one wire in a hole (50) in one slide member constituting a pivot, and the other wire in a slot (52) in that slide member.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 52 words
A slide pair as claimed in Claim 6 or Claim 7 in which the trigger is supplied assembled with the pair of slide members and has a part which can be lifted, for example, against a spring, by the wire in the slot as the other wire turns in the pivot hole.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim 29 words
A slide pair as claimed in any of Claims 6-8 . in which the trigger.is formed with a curved portion (38) to accommodate the wires or one of them.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 38 words
Two slide pairs each as claimed in Claims 6-9 in which the body is constituted by a cross tube extending transversely between corresponding triggers on the two pairs of slide members, one at each side of the seat.
