Abstract

Abstract An imaging device (10) comprises an array of photosensitive reading elements (R 2 ) and an array of associated marking elements (S), one for each reading element. Each reading element (R 21 is linked to its associated marking element (S), by way of a circuit which comprises thin-film transistor amplifiers (22). In this way the reading elements, marking elements and amplifier circuits may be carried by a compact and inexpensive common structure (21). The imaging device may be used for copying documents, as well as for reading documents and transmitting the information to another of the imaging devices, and for producing a record from information received from another of the devices.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 63 words
An imaging device comprising an array of photosensitive reading elements, an array of associated marking elements, one for each reading element, and a set of electrical circuits, one of said circuits being interposed between each reading element, and all of said reading elements, marking elements, and circuits being carried by a common structure, characterised in that each of said circuits includes an amplifer.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 63 words
An imaging device comprising an array of photosensitive reading elements, an array of associated marking elements, one for each reading element, and a set of electrical circuits, one of said circuits being interposed between each reading element, and all of said reading elements, marking elements, and circuits being carried by a common structure, characterised in that each of said circuits includes an amplifer.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 21 words
The imaging device of Claim 1 wherein the amplifier in each of said circuits includes one or more thin film transistors.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 34 words
The imaging device of claim 1 or claim 2 wherein said amplifier includes two transistors, a first transistor comprising a low-voltage, high gain stage, and the second transistor comprising a high-voltage, lower gain stage.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 56 words
The imaging device of claim 3 including a third transistor arranged to act as a bi-directional series gate for enabling externally generated signals to be supplied via the second transistor to its associated marking element, and for enabling signals produced by a reading element and amplified by the first transistor to be supplied to external circuitry.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 34 words
The imaging device of any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein said structure carries optical means for forming an image of an object to be copied on said array of photosensitive marking elements.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 58 words
A copying apparatus including means for supporting an object to be copied, illumination means for illuminating said object, an imaging device in accordance with claim 5, means for causing relative movement between the object supporting means and the imaging device, and image receiving means arranged to cooperate with said marking elements to record an image of said object.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 66 words
An information network comprising at least two imaging devices according to any one of claims 1 to 5, each of said devices being arranged so as to be capable of copying an original, of transmitting information representing an original to one or more others of said imaging devices, and of receiving and making a record of information received from one or more others of said devices.
