Abstract

An electromagnet for generating the static magnetic field for NMR tomography consists of a cylindrical field coil (1) and a stable cylinder jacket (4) surrounding and simultaneously supporting the coil made of iron. The field coil (1), which may be multi-part or provided with correction coils (2, 3), generates an at least approximately homogeneous magnetic field in the interior space defined by it, which is suitable for holding the body to be examined, the homogeneity of which does not change even with temperature changes due to the strictly symmetrical structure of the arrangement is disturbed, even with such large dimensions that the coil allows the human body to be absorbed. The cylinder jacket (4) not only serves as an extremely stable support element, but also forms a magnetic feedback, which significantly reduces the power requirement of the magnet, as well as shielding against both external magnetic fields and electromagnetic interference as well as against the radiation of the NMR -Tomography generated RF field. The cylinder jacket (4) made of iron can be supplemented by ring washers (5) and pipe sockets (9) attached to the ends thereof, or even closed by an iron cover, and its effect can thereby be improved.
