Abstract

Abstract A central dictation and transcribing system including a plurality of dictate stations (16) and a plurality of transcribe stations (17) in which recorded dictation is recorded in the form of digitized samples. A plurality of selectively operable controls (38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 43, 45, 46) are used to rearrange the reproduced order of dictation heard by the transcriber by inserting, deleting, and moving segments of previously recorded dictation. All final dictation heard by the transcriber is continuous and in a order determined by operation of the controls. The structure includes memory (11,12) for storing the digitized samples and a map memory (40) for storing a plurality of address pairs (127, 128) indicative of when normal sequential reproduction of digitized samples from the main memory is to be altered. A predetermined jump code (98) is stored at each location in the main memory to indicate that a change of sequence is to be made from that address and reference to the map memory should be made. The samples to and from the dictate stations and transcribe stations are pipelined over data buses (20, 29) in a time division multiplex arrangement (60).

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 282 words
A dictation recording and transcribing machine characterized by: a set of controls (16) selectively operable for providing a record signal, a playback signal, an insert signal, and an end of insert signal; an analog to digital converter for providing digital output signals in response to input analog dictation signals; a digital to analog converter for providing analog dictation signals in response to being provided stored digital signals by said addressable memory; an addressable memory for storing said digital output signals as said stored digital signals in response to said record signal, for storing digital jump signals (114), and for providing said stored digital signals in response to said playback signal to said digital to analog converter; a controller (15) including an address counter (34) for controlling accessed addresses of said addressable memory, a control map (40) for storing pointing vectors (127, 128), said pointing vectors comprising a first address signal (127) corresponding to the count of said address counter at the time of occurrence of said insert signal and a second address signal (128) corresponding to a beginning address of an available portion of said addressable memory for storing a dictation insert, said controller being responsive to said occurrence of said insert signal to record one of said digital jump signals at the address of said addressable memory corresponding to said first address signal, and to store said first address signal in said control map; and said controller responsive to said playback signal to provide a sequence of stored digital signals to said digital to analog converter beginning at an address defined by said second address signal, upon detection of said jump signal, at the address defined by said first address signal.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 282 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 103 words
A dictation recording and transcribing machine as defined in Claim 1 further characterized bv: said set of controls including a control to provide a delete signal (39) and an end of deletion signal (45); said controller storing said first address signal in said memory map and one of said digital jump signals at an address of said addressable memory equal to the count in said address counter at the time of occurrence of said delete signal; and said controller stores the count of said address counter as said second address signal in response to a subsequent occurrence of said end ,f deletion signal.
