Abstract

Abstract An electronic control apparatus for an internal combustion engine in which a quantity of intake air fed to the engine cylinders is detected by processing an output signal (AF) produced by an air flow sensor (24) incorporating a heat generating element and an optimal quantity of fuel corresponding to the detected intake air flow is supplied to the internal combustion engine. Arrangement is made such that the internal combustion engine can be operated with an otpimal fuel supply even when the heat generating element (24) electrically energized is not yet heated to a predetermined temperature.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 172 words
An electronic control apparatus for an internal combustion engine in which a quantity of intake air fed to engine cylinders is defected by processing an output signal (AF) produced by an air flow sensor (24) incorporating a heat generating element and an optimal quantity of fuel corresponding to the detected intake air quantity is supplied to the internal combustion engine, comprising: first detecting means (802) for detecting that a predetermined time (t ) has elapsed from a time point at which a key switch of said internal combustion engine is closed to electrically energize said heat generating element (24) until a time point at which said heat generating element is heated to a predetermined temperature; and control means (810) for controlling optimal quantity of fuel supplied to said internal combustion engine in dependence on other control factor (TW) without making use of said output signal (AF) produced from said air flow sensor (24) incorporating said heat generating element until said first detecting means detects that said predetermined time (t ) has elapsed.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 172 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 35 words
A control apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said first detecting means detects the lapse of said predetermined time (t ) with the aid of interval interrupts made by electronic operation means (102, 104, 106).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 35 words
A control apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, wherein said other control factor includes an output signal (TW) produced from a sensor (56) for detecting temperature of cooling water of said internal combustion engine.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 119 words
A control apparatus according to claim 1, further including second detecting means for detecting that a throttle valve (16) is fully closed unless said predetermined time (t ) has elapsed, wherein sid optimal quantity of fuel supply is determined in correspondence with said other control factor (TW) without resorting to the use of the output signal produced from said air flow sensor (24) incorporating the heat generating element when a detection signal outputted from said second detecting means is present, while said optimal quantity of fuel supply is determined by making use of the output signal (AF) from said air flow sensor (24) incorporating the heat generating element when the detection signal from said second detecting means is absent.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 35 words
A control apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said first detecting means detects the lapse of said predetermined time (t ) with the aid of interval interrupts made by electronic operation means (102, 104, 206).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 35 words
A control apparatus according to claim 4 or 5, wherein said other control factor includes and output signal (TW) produced from a sensor (56) for detecting temperature of cooling water of said internal combustion engine.
