Abstract
Abstract The baffle inspection apparatus comprises a gauging mechanism (140) mounted on a movable support for determining the width of a gap between two adjacent baffle plates (32) in a nuclear reactor. The gauging mechanism (140) comprises a rotatable member (182) with a plurality of feeler gauges (186) disposed thereon that is capable of remotely rotating and laterally aligning each feeler gauge (186) with selected gap to determine the size of the gap. The apparatus may be equipped with underwater camera and lights for remotely viewing the inspection operation.

Independent Claim
82 words
Baffle maintenance apparatus for inspecting baffle plates (32) in a nuclear reactor comprising a support member (42) capable of being positioned in a nuclear reactor (20), and a carriage (54) slidably disposed on said support member (42), characterized by a gauging mechanism (140) disposed on said carriage (54) and having a plurality of feeler gauges (186) attached thereto for selectively inserting said feeler gauges (186) between said baffle plates (32) for determining the width of the space between said baffle plates (32).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
61 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 1, characterized in that said gauging mechanism (140) comprises a rotatable member (182) having said feeler gauges (186) attached thereto for determining the width of said space between said baffle plates (32), and rotation means (172) connected to said rotatable member for rotating said rotatable member (182) for selectively positioning said feeler gauges (186).
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
104 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that said rotation means, a platform rotatably supports said rotatable member (182), a rod (172) slidably disposed in said platform is attached to said rotatable member (182) for moving said rotatable member (182) relative to said platform (148) while allowing said rotatable member (182) to rotate with respect to said rod, and indexing means (188-206) mounted on said platform and arranged to contact said rotatable member (182) when said rotatable member (182) is moved relative to said platform (148) for contacting and rotating said rotatable member (182) relative to said platform (148).
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
82 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 3, characterized in that said indexing means (188-206) comprises a pivotable stop (200) mounted on said platform (148) and arranged to contact and rotate said rotatable member (182) when said rotatable member (182) is moved relative to said platform (148) in a first direction and arranged to contact but not rotate said rotatable member (182) when said rotatable member (182) is moved relative to said platform (148) in a direction opposite to said first direction.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
55 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 4, characterized in that said gauging means (140) further comprises a base (144) fixedly mounted on said carriage (54) and slidably carrying said platform (148), and positioning means connected to said base (148) and to said platform (148) for moving said platform (148) relative to said base (144).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
78 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 5, characterized in that said positioning means comprises a second rod slidably disposed in a first slot in said base and slidably disposed in a second slot in said platform with said second slot being arranged in a plane different from the plane of said first slot whereby movement of said second rod in said first slot and in said second slot causes said platform to slide relative to said base.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
69 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 6, characterized in that said pivotable stop comprises a dog pivotally mounted on said platform and arranged to contact said rotatable member, a post mounted on said platform and arranged to contact said dog and to prevent rotation of said dog in one direction, and biasing means attached to said dog and arranged to urge said dog into contact with said post.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
25 words
A baffle maintenance apparatus according to claim 7, characterized in that said feeler gauges are mounted on said rotatable member in an equally spaced manner.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
