Abstract

Abstract A rotation preventing'thrust bearing device (37) for use in an orbiting piston type fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The rotation preventingthrust bearing device (37) includes a discrete fixed portion, a discrete orbital portion and bearing elements (377). The fixed portion includes a fixed race (371) and fixed ring (372) both of which are formed separately and the fixed ring (372) is fixed on a housing of the apparatus. The orbital portion includes an orbital race (374) and an orbital ring (375) both of which are formed separately and the orbital ring (375) is fixed on the orbiting piston (27). A plurality of pockets are formed axially in the rings (372, 375) toward the respective races (371, 374). The pockets of the rings face one another in generally aligned pairs. A bearing element (377) is received in each aligned pair of pockets to prevent the rotation of the orbiting piston (27) by the bearing elements (377) interacting with the orbital and fixed rings (375,372) and to carry the axial thrust load from the orbiting piston (27).
