Abstract 1. A rotary kiln comprising a rotatable outer tube (2), which surrounds and is radially spaced from an inner tube (3) and carries drag buckets (11), which protrude towards the inner tube (3) and serve to carry along the material (10) to be treated, also comprising a burner (7), which is disposed at that end of the kiln which is opposite to the material feeder (5) and which opens into the inner tube (3), which is open towards the material feeder (5), characterized in that the inner tube (3) is open at one end and is non-rotatable mounted and at its end wall (6) carries the burner (7).
