Abstract

Abstract A single crystal is produced by previously forming macrocrystal grains having substantially the same crystal structure as crystal grains comprising a polycrystal exhibiting discontinuous crystal grain growth or forming the macrocrystal grains after preparing a polycrystal in contact with the crystal grains comprising the polycrystal and heating such a contacted body at a temperature lower than the temperature causing the discontinuous crystal grain growth of the polycrystal to grow a crystal while integrating the macrocrystal grains with the crystal grains comprising the polycrystal, whereby a single crystal is grown.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 9
Claim 1
Independent Claim 96 words
A method of producing a single crystal, characterized by comprising previously forming macrocrystal grains having substantially the same crystal structure as crystal grains comprising a polycrystal exhibiting discontinuous crystal grain growth or forming the said macrocrystal grains after preparing a said polycrystal in contact with the crystal grains comprising the polycrystal and heating such a contacted body at a temperature lower than the temperature causing the discontinuous crystal grain growth of the polycrystal to grow a crystal while integrating the said macrocrystal grains with the crystal grains comprising the polycrystal, whereby a single crystal is grown.
Claim 2
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 43 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, characterized by forming the macrocrystal grains in contact with crystal grains comprising the polycrystal by concurrently and integrally sintering the macrocrystal grains together with a shaped body when preparing the polycrystal to form the macrocrystal grains.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 44 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, characterized by forming the macrocrystal grains in contact with crystal grains comprising the polycrystal by locally heating the polycrystal at a temperature higher than the temperature causing the discontinuous crystal grain growth to form the macrocrystal grains.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 39 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, characterized by forming the macrocrystal grains in contact with crystal grains comprising the polycrystal by forming a projected portion in the polycrystal and heating the said projected portion to form macrocrystal grains.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 38 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, characterized by forming the macrocrystal grains in contact with crystal grains comprising the polycrystal by heating the polycrystal and concurrently locally applying a stress to the polycrystal to form macrocrystal grains.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 52 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, characterized by forming the macrocrystal grains in contact with crystal grains comprising the polycrystal by locally adding an additive which promotes crystal growth to the polycrystal or a shaped body when preparing the polycrystal and firing the polycrystal or shaped body to form macrocrystal grains.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 53 words
A method as claimed in Claim 1, characterized by forming the macrocrystal grains in contact with crystal grains comprising the polycrystal by forming an amorphous film or microcrystal film on at least one part of the polycrystal surface and heating the said film or applying stress to the film to form macrocrystal grains.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 25 words
A method as claimed in Claim 7, characterized in that an amorphous film or microcrystal film is heated in contact with a seed single crystal.
