Abstract

The invention relates to a battery charging system which has an alternating current generator (10), a voltage regulator (20) and a charging control device for indicating faults. This is equipped with a signal transmitter (82) for recognizing the switching state of the voltage regulator, a first threshold value stage (67) for recognizing a minimum value of the generator voltage and a second threshold value stage (69) for recognizing a voltage at a sensing point which is above a certain value above the control setpoint System. One input of the first threshold value stage (67) is connected to an error detection connection (D +) on the excitation system (12, 14) of the generator, which is decoupled from the battery voltage. The second threshold value stage (69) is connected on the input side to a sensing point influenced by the battery voltage. This has the advantage that the first threshold value stage (67) is able to detect and evaluate the charge state of the battery in an unadulterated manner, unaffected by the state of charge of the battery, and the second threshold value stage.
