Abstract

Abstract A composition for an imaging medium solution that is suitable for use in making ablative imaging media such as video discs, microlithographic films, and chemical etch resist-type films. The composition consists essentially of about 200 parts nitrocellulose and about 37 parts disperse red I dye dissolved in a suitable solvent, to provide a solution that is highly absorptive at a wavelength of about 480 nanometers. The solution is prepared in a special process that provides a highly-stabilized viscosity such that it can be used to form films of precise, uniform thicknesses.

Total Claims: 6
Claim 1
Independent Claim 80 words
- 1. A composition for a solution suitable for use in forming a thin, uniform ablative imaging medium, the composition consisting essentially of: about 200 parts nitrocellulose; about 37 parts disperse red I dye; and an effective amount of a solvent; wherein the nitrocellulose and the dye are thoroughly mixed in the solvent, to form a homogeneous solution having a prescribed viscosity, and wherein the solution is highly absorptive of light having a wavelength of about 480 to 490 nanometers.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 18 words
A composition as defined in claim 1, wherein the nitrocellulose has a nitrogen content of about 12 percent.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 17 words
A composition as defined in claim 1, and further including about 55 to 110 parts isopropyl alcohol.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 18 words
A composition as defined in claim 1, wherein the effective amount of the solvent is about 11,400 parts.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 13 words
A composition as defined in claim 4, wherein the solvent is Cellosolve acetate.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 98 words
A composition for a solution suitable for use in forming a thin, uniform ablative imaging medium, the composition consisting essentially of: about 200 parts nitrocellulose, the nitrocellulose having a nitrogen content of about 12 percent; about 37 parts disperse red I dye; about 55 to 110 parts isopropyl alcohol; and about 11,400 parts cellosolve acetate solvent; wherein the nitrocellulose and the dye are thoroughly mixed in the solvent, to form a homogeneous solution having a viscosity of about eight centipoise, and wherein the solution is highly absorptive of light having a wavelength of about 480 to 490 nanometers.
