Abstract
Abstract Optically active or racemic diazabicyclooctane derivatives of formula wherein A represents a C 6 -C 14 aryl group or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy group- or halogen-substituted C 6 -C 14 aryl group and R 3 represents a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group. These compounds can be prepared by reacting a glyoxylate ester or glyoxylate ester hemiacetal with a 2(-N-substituted aminomethyl)pyrrolidine, and can be used to prepare optically active and racemic α-hydroxyaldehydes which are important intermediates in the preparation of pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals.
