Abstract

Abstract In order to reduce loss from a steel article due to scaling when it is subjected to a treatment involving heating, for example annealing or hot rolling, a coating composition is applied to the article to form thereon a coating comprising finely divided iron oxide particles. Preferred coating compositions include red mud which is a residue left after the extraction of alumina from bauxite, and flue dust from an iron- or steel-melting furnace.
