Abstract

Abstract Pleasant-tasting, non-greasy, edible compositions, preferably in liquid form, comprising edible oil or oil-like materials, a high potency, lipid soluble sweetener, such as saccharin, and a lipid soluble flavorant, are disclosed. These compositions are particularly useful as an oral dosage form for vitamins or pharmaceutical materials; in such embodiments the edible oil-like material may consist, in whole or in part, of an oily pharmaceutical agent, such as polyol fatty acid esters having at least four fatty acid ester groups, each fatty acid having from about 8 to about 22 carbon atoms.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 12
Claim 1
Independent Claim 40 words
An edible composition characterized by: (a) from 25% to 99.9% of an edible oil or oil-like material; (b) from 0.001% to 5% of a highly potent, lipid soluble sweetener; and (c) from 0.1% to 5% of a lipid soluble flavorant.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 40 words
An edible composition characterized by: (a) from 25% to 99.9% of an edible oil or oil-like material; (b) from 0.001% to 5% of a highly potent, lipid soluble sweetener; and (c) from 0.1% to 5% of a lipid soluble flavorant.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 38 words
A composition according to Claim 1 in the form of a liquid characterized in that the sweetener is selected from the group consisting of saccharin, alkoxy aromatics, oximes, sulfamic acids, dihydrochalcones, aspartyl malonates, succanilic acids, and mixtures thereof.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 22 words
A composition according to Claim 1 or 2 characterized by from 0.01% to 1%, preferably from 0.025% to 0.5% of said sweetener.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 23 words
A composition according to any of Claims 1 to 3 characterized by from 0.1% to 1%, preferably from 0.25%-to 0.75% of the flavorant.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 32 words
A pharmaceutical composition in oral dosage form according to any of Claims 1 to 4 characterized in that it additionally contains a safe and effective amount of a lipid soluble pharmaceutical agent.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 41 words
A pharmaceutical composition in oral dosage form according to any of Claims 1 to 4 characterized in that the edible oil or oil-like material is comprised, in whole or in part, by a safe and effective amount of a pharmaceutical agent.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
A pharmaceutical composition according to Claim 6 characterized in that said pharmaceutical agent is selected from polyol fatty acid esters having at least 4 fatty acid ester groups, each fatty acid having from 8 to 22 carbon atoms.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 16 words
A pharmaceutical composition according to Claim 7 characterized in that the pharmaceutical agent is sucrose octaoleate.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 23 words

Claim 11
Dependent Claim 84 words
A process for preparing an edible liquid composition comprising: (a) from 25% to 99.9% of an edible oil or oil-like material; (b) from 0.001% to 5% of a highly potent, lipid soluble sweetener; and (c) from 0.1% to 5% of a lipid soluble flavorant, characterized in that the sweetener component is solubilized in the edible oil or oil-like material and the flavorant is subsequently added to this mixture in a manner so as not to lose the volatile components contained in said flavorant .
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 84 words
A process for preparing an edible liquid composition comprising: (a) from 25% to 99.9% of an edible oil or oil-like material; (b) from 0.001% to 5% of a highly potent, lipid soluble sweetener; and (c) from 0.1% to 5% of a lipid soluble flavorant, characterized in that the sweetener component is solubilized in the edible oil or oil-like material and the flavorant is subsequently added to this mixture in a manner so as not to lose the volatile components contained in said flavorant .
