Abstract

Abstract A lock-up control system for a lock-up type automatic transmission of an automotive vehicle The lock-up control system functions to temporally release lock-up operation of a torque converter of the transmission upon occurrence of a gear shift signal even if the automotive vehicle is operating within any one of lock-up ranges. A plurality of gear shifting detectors (225,226,227) are provided, each generating the gear shift signal when triggered. Gate means (222,223,224) functions to select one of said plurality of gear shifting detectors in response to the engine load for allowing transmission of a gear shifting command to the selected one gear shifting detector. Delay means (240,241) is provided to retard transmission of the gear shifting command to the plurality of gear shifting detectors in such a manner that a delay between the occurrence of the gear shifting command and the occurrence of the gear shift signal.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 3
Claim 1
Independent Claim 243 words
A lock-up control system for a lock-up type automatic transmission of an automotive vehicle having an engine, the lock-up type automatic transmission including a torque converter with a lock-up clutch, the torque converter being shiftable into a lock-up state or a torque converter state, the lock-up control system comprising: means (201-206) for determining whether the automotive vehicle is operating in a predetermined lock-up range or not and for generating a. lock-up permission signal (S L ) that indicates that the automotive vehicle is operating within said predetermined lock-up range; means (61) for detecting a command for shifting from one gear ratio to the adjacent gear ratio within the lock-up type automatic transmission and for generating an output signal upon detection of the command; means (225,226,227) for generating a gear shift signal when triggered by said output signal; means for detecting engine load and for varying elapsed time between the occurrence of said output signal and the subsequent generation of said gear shift signal by said gear shift signal generating means in response to the engine load; and means (252,253,254,31) for receiving said lock-up permission signal (S L ) and said gear shift signal for causing the lock-up torque converter to lock up when said lock-up signal is present while said gear shift signal is absent and for allowing the torque converter to operate in a torque converter state while the gear shift signal is present even if the lock-up permission signal is present.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 243 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 108 words
A lock-up control system as claimed in claim 1, wherein said gear shift signal generating means includes a plurality of gear shifting detectors; said engine load detecting means is operative to select one of said plurality of gear shifting detectors in response to the engine load to transmit said output signal to said selected one gear shifting detector for triggering same and includes delay means (240,241) for retarding transmission of said output signal to said plurality of gear shifting detectors in such a manner that a delay between the occurrence of said output signal and the occurrence of the gear shift signal differs depending upon the engine load.
