Abstract

Abstract An optical fiber cable connector is used for terminating an optical fiber (1) for an optical fiber cable. In order to allow axial movement of the fiber within the cable, to absorb external forces and to facilitate the assemblance of the cable, the connector comprises a tube (2) for containing said optical fiber to allow said optical fiber to move freely and axially therein, securing means (6) having an internal diameter substantially the same as that of said optical fiber (1) for preventing the axial movement of said optical fiber (1) held inside of said tube, and termination means (5) having a cylindrical bore (7, 8, 9) for receiving said optical fiber cable fixed to said securing means (6). The termination means (5) may have a first bore (7) for receiving said optical fiber (1), a a second bore (8) for receiving said securing means (6) and a third bore (9) for receiving said tube (2). The optical fiber (1) is firmly supported in a glass tube (10) within the first bore (7). Additional absorbing means formed coaxially around said termination means absorb the external force in the axial direction of said optical fiber. The absorbing means of two connectors are connected via an adapter.
