Abstract

Abstract A multiplex information handling system for a vehicle has a number of transmitters (Figure 1) and receivers (Figure 2) all interconnected by a common power bus PB and signal bus SB (50). The transmitters transmit signals along the signal bus representing the operational state of control equipment or equipment controlled by that equipment and the receivers respond to and act on such signals to, for example, authorise the display of information received or the initiation of a control function. System management (5A, 5B, 53 54) and supervision (6C, 65) is provided for such that the transmission of certain signal states is made dependent upon the state of other signals in the system and this dependence can be over- riden. for example, for vehicle servicing. Supervision also provides for certain urgent signals to be given priority over other signals.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 11
Claim 1
Independent Claim 102 words
A multiplex information handling system characterised by a plurality of transmitters (Figure 1) and a plurality of receivers (Figure 2) all interconnected by a signal bus (SB 50) and by a power bus PB, pieces of control equipment associated with the transmitters and receivers responsive to signals received by an associated receiver along the signal bus and signal priority establishing means (Tl T2), the transmitters being oper- tive to transmit signals along the signal bus representative of the operational state of associated control equipment and/or pieces of equipment controlled by the control equipment under the control of the signal priority establishing means.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 102 words
A multiplex information handling system characterised by a plurality of transmitters (Figure 1) and a plurality of receivers (Figure 2) all interconnected by a signal bus (SB 50) and by a power bus PB, pieces of control equipment associated with the transmitters and receivers responsive to signals received by an associated receiver along the signal bus and signal priority establishing means (Tl T2), the transmitters being oper- tive to transmit signals along the signal bus representative of the operational state of associated control equipment and/or pieces of equipment controlled by the control equipment under the control of the signal priority establishing means.
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 33 words
A multiplex information handling system as claimed in claim 1, in which means (57) are provided for generating signals dependent on the state of signals received by receivers along the signal bus 50.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 74 words
A multiplex information handling system as claimed in Claim 2, in which the means for generating signals- comprises a logic transmitter (57) adapted to transmit a signal dependent upon the operating state of a control apparatus (53) which is monitored by a receiver (5A), a further receiver (5B) being provided adapted to respond to the signal so transmitted and operative to hold apparatus (56) responsive to the control apparatus (53) in a predetermined state.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 38 words
A multiplex information handling system as claimed in Claim 3, in which the control apparatus (53) is an automobile seatbelt switch and the apparatus responsive to the control apparatus is the select drive selector of the automobile transmission.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 54 words
A multiplex informationhandling system as claimed in Claim 3, or 4, in which a supervisory unit is provided comprising a receiver (6C) and duplicate transmitter (65) and control means (60) are provided for causing the transmitter to transmit a signal operative to override the effect of any signal transmitted by the logic transmitter (57).
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 26 words
A multiplex information handling system as claimed in Claim 5, when appendant to Claim 4, in which the control means (60) comprises a seatbelt override switch.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 38 words
A multiplex informationhandilinhg system as claimed in any preceding claim, in which delay means (65) are. provided for delaying implementation of a received signal for longer than the priority transmission and reception of a remedial signal would require.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 30 words
A multiplex information handling system as claimed in any preceding claim, in which each transmitter incorporates means (20) to protect analogue data from variatior due to variation-in the power supply.
Claim 10
