Magnetic disk drive apparatus
Abstract
Abstract Apparatus for loading a collet (456) with respect to a rotatable drive hub (430) of a magnetic disk drive apparatus to grip a magnetic disk between the collet and drive hub, includes a leaf spring (460) supported at opposite ends with respect to a machine frame (422) and carrying the collet (456) at an intermediate place between the ends. One end of the spring (460) is pivotally mounted on a boss (462) on the frame and the other end has a sliding connection in a slot (468) in a web (466) of the frame. A manually rotatable shaft (470) has an offset portion (469) carrying a roller (472) to apply force on the leaf spring between its pivotal mounting and the collet so as to move the collet to engage the disk between the collet and drive hub against the resilience of the leaf spring. The leaf spring is relatively wide in its portion (461) between its pivotal mounting and the collet and is relatively narrow between the collet and its other end so that the narrow portion (463) of the spring bends the wide portion (461) of the spring as the collet is moved towards the hub. The collet thereby grips the disk uniformly with respect to the hub and the longitudinal centre of the collet remains nearly coincident with the longitudinal centre of the hub as the collet completes its disk engaging movement with respect to the hub to avoid side thrust on the disk.
