Abstract

Abstract A vehicle seat suspension, of the type comprising a seat frame (12) supported on a base frame (11) by two spaced pairs of scissor action linkage arms (13,14), has the ends of the linkage arms connected to one of the frames wholly by pivotal connections (e.g., 15,18) having freedom for displacement longitudinally of the suspension and a resilient coupling (46) connecting the one frame to one of the linkage arms to damp the transmission of vibrations between the frames in the longitudinal direction.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 8
Claim 1
Independent Claim 256 words
A spring suspension for a vehicle seat, the suspension comprising a seat frame and a base frame interconnected by a scissor-action linkage arm system, the system including two pairs of scissor-action linkage arms spaced apart on a common pivot axis, said arms having pivotal interconnections at their opposite ends with said frames, to permit the frames to move towards and away from one another, each pivotal connection on one pair of arms being coaxial with a corresponding pivotal connection on the other pair of arms, and a biassing spring connected between parts of the suspension which pivot relatively to one another during relative movement of the frames towards or away from each other, to bias the two frames away from one another, characterised by all of the pivotal connections between one of said frames (11,12) and the adjacent ends of the linkage arms (13,14) connected thereto being displaceable connections extending in a common direction to permit both relative pivotal movement between the linkage arms of each pair and relative translational movement between all the linkage arms and said one frame (11), and a motion limiting resilient coupling (40,46,50,51) including an anchoring spring (46) of limited expansion and contraction connected between said one frame (11) and the linkage arm system to permit relative translational movement along said common direction between the whole linkage arm system and said one frame within the limits of expansion and contraction of the spring thereby reducing the transmission of vibration in said common direction between the base frame and the seat frame.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 256 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 59 words
A spring suspension according to claim 1 characterised in that said resilient coupling includes a manually operable locking device (55,62) connected between said one frame and the linkage arm system under the restraint of the anchoring spring, and in its operative state locking said one frame to at least one said linkage arm to prevent said relative translational movement.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 70 words
A spring suspension according to claim 2 characterised in that said coupling further comprises a shaft (40) extending along said direction and mounted within bushes (41,42) in said one frame, the shaft being connected rigidly to said one linkage arm and connected by said anchoring spring (46) to said one frame (11), the locking device being operable to lock the shaft to said one frame to prevent relative movement therebetween.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 78 words
A spring suspension according to claim 3 'characterised in that said anchoring spring (46) is located between two spring abutment plates (44,45) slidably mounted on said shaft 40, the spring (46) and plates (44,45) being located between two abutment members (47,48) fixed on the shaft and between two stop plates (50,51) fixed on said one frame (11) to restrict the movement of the plates (44,45), the abutment members being capable of moving through apertures in the abutment plates.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 36 words
A spring suspension according to claim 4 characterised by resilient buffers mounted on the shaft and spaced from parts of said one frame to prevent excessive movement of the shaft (40) from damaging the resilient coupling.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 15 words
A vehicle seat spring suspension substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 15 words
A vehicle seat spring suspension substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
