Abstract Method for detecting the presence of vehicles over a measuring device disposed in the road, in particular for differentiating between vehicle types by determining the vehicle length while taking note of the additionally measured speed, taking into account the ground clearance, the signal level (threshold I or II) which must be exceeded for an indication of presence of a vehicle being increased if the signal intensity exceeds a predetermined level (threshold III) in the case of a measuring device which supplies a signal whose intensity diminishes with increasing vehicle ground clearance. <IMAGE>
