Abstract
Abstract Electrostatographic developer mixtures providing substantially improved copy quality are disclosed. The developer mixtures comprise toner particles substantially all of which are of a size between a lower size limit of 3 microns and an upper size limit of between 8 and 15 microns. The carrier particles have a mean size which is not less than the upper size limit of the toner particles and not greater than 65 microns. Imaging processes employing the developer mixtures are also disclosed.

Claim 1
Independent Claim
76 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture comprising finely-divided toner particles electrostatically clinging to the surface of carrier particles, characterised in that substantially all the toner particles are of a size between a lower size limit of 3 microns and an upper size limit of between 8 and 15 microns, and in that the carrier particles have a mean size which is not less than the upper size limit of the toner particles and not greater than 65 microns.
Claim 2
Dependent Claim
Claim 3
Dependent Claim
24 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with Claim 1 wherein said carrier particles comprise a conductive metal such as nickel, steel, iron, or ferrite.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim
26 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein said carrier particles comprise a core having a coating of an insulating material.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim
28 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with Claim 3 wherein said insulating material comprises from 0.1% to 10.0% by weight based on the weight of said carrier particles.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim
54 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 4 wherein said toner particles comprise a mixture of about 90 parts by weight of a copolymer of about 58.0% by weight of styrene, about 42.0% by weight of n-butyl-methacrylate, and about 10 parts by weight of a furnace carbon black.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim
51 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 4 wherein said toner particles comprise a mixture of about 88.5 parts by weight of a polymeric esterification product of a dicarboxylic acid and a diol comprising a diphenol and about 11.5 parts by weight of carbon black.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim
28 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with Claim 6 including about 0.65 parts by weight based on the weight of said toner particles of submicroscopic silicon dioxide particles.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim
26 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with Claim 7 including about 0.35 parts by weight based on the weight of said toner particles of zinc stearate.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim
54 words
An electrostatographic developer mixture in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 4 wherein said toner particles comprise a mixture of about 80 parts by weight of styrene, about 20 parts by weight of isobutyl methacrylate, about 15 parts by weight of diphenyl isophthalate, and about 10 parts by weight of carbon black.
Claim 11
Dependent Claim
67 words
An electrostatographic imaging process comprising the steps of providing an electrostatographic imaging member having a recording surface, forming an electrostatic latent image on said recording surface, and contacting said electrostatic latent image with a developer mixture comprising finely-divided toner particles electrostatically clinging to the surface of carrier particles, characterised in that the developer mixture comprises a mixture in accordance with any one of Claims 1 to 9.
