Abstract
Abstract A liquid crystal material includes in solution therewith a pleochroic dye characterised in that the dye is an anthraquinone of general formula: where R 2 is either hydrogen or a hydroxyl group and where R 3 is an anilino or substituted or modified anilino group and where R, is hydrogen when R 2 is a hydroxyl group and R, is an anilino or substituted or modified anilino group, preferably the same as R 3 , when R 2 is hydrogen. A large number of alternatives for R 3 are disclosed.
