Vehicle electrical switch or control device - uses PCB with flexible part rolled into coil and accommodated in insulating jacket or envelope

Abstract

Abstract The device has at least one PCB (11) which is flexible over part of its length carrying a printed circuit and electrical/electronic components (29) with a multi-pin contact terminal (12) fitting through the wall of the housing (10) of the device. The flexible part (31) of the PCB is tensioned so that it rolls up into a coil, the rolled length being enclosed in an insulating sleeve (35). The tensioning may be provided by thermal stressing of the flexible part of the conductor foil. USE/ADVANTAGE - For vehicle switching or control unit with protection against moisture ingress, corrosion and vibration. Reduced overall length of device for relatively large surface area circuit.
