Abstract
Abstract The internal-combustion engine has progressive pressure-charging, with first and second turbo-chargers(3,4) whose turbines(5,6) are connected in parallel to the engine exhaust manifold(2), while their compressors(14,15) are connected in parallel to a pipe(18) leading to the inlet manifold(20). The cross-section of the inlet to the turbine of the first turbo-charger is adjustable. The second turbo-charger can be cut out by stop valves(13,21) at the turbine inlet and the compressor outlet to the pipe. ADVANTAGE - Maximum compressor efficiency over wide load and speed range.
