Coupling-for tubes of different sizes - has resilient stepped bore collar clamped over grooved ends of pipes
Abstract
Abstract A rubber or plastic collar (3), having a constant external diameter and two different internal diameters (4) (5). Clamping and sealing onto the tubes is achieved by a circumferential clamp (9) and, around the smaller diameter tube, radial inserts (25) which transfer the clamping pressure from the clamp to the tube surface. The clamp is formed of flat metal bent in a circle with the ends formed into a forked hook around cylindrical pieces, one tapped and the other oversize to receive two damping bolts. The radial inserts prevent the collar being extruded from the ends as the clamp is tightened, thus confining pressure to the pipe circumference.
