Abstract

Abstract ABSTRACT Disclosed is a remotely addressable controller and in particular a loopback device which can be addressed and operated remotely by D.T.M.F. (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) data signals transmitted from a central office. The device includes a C.P.U. having one set of inputs which can be addressed by setting switches and a second set of inputs which receive decoded D.T.M.F. signals from the central office. If address signals on the second set of inputs match those on the first set, the C.P.U. accepts subsequent control signals to actuate relays. The relays have contacts to set up either line loopback or equipment loopback. An LED provides a visual indication of loopback. A switch on the device allows loopback to be effected manually.

Claims Analysis

Total Claims: 7
Claim 1
Independent Claim 217 words
A remotely addressable controller comprising first input terminals for receiving signals including D.T.M.F. (Dual Tone Multi-Frequency) signals from a central office, means for decoding said D.T.M.F. signals to provide binary signals, and data processing means for processing said binary signals to detect a received address code and compare it to an assigned address code for said controller, said data processing means responding to identity between said received address code and said assigned address code by processing a predetermined number of subsequent codes to provide output control signals, said controller further comprising first output terminals for transmitting signals to said central office, second output terminals for transmitting signals to external equipment, second input terminals for receiving signals from said external equipment, and first and second relays each including contact means arranged so that (a) when both relays are deenergized signals are transmitted over a first path between said first input terminals and said second output terminals and over a second path between said second input terminals and said first output terminals, (b) when said first relay is energized signals are only transmitted between said first input terminals and said first output terminals (line loopback), and (c) when said second relay is energized signals are only transmitted between said second input terminals and said second output terminals (equipment loopback).
Claim 2
Dependent Claim 217 words
Claim 3
Dependent Claim 25 words
A controller as claimed in claim 1 wherein said first and second relays are responsive to first and second ones of said output control signals.
Claim 4
Dependent Claim 15 words
A controller as claimed in claim 1 wherein said data processing means is a microprocessor.
Claim 5
Dependent Claim 20 words
A controller as claimed in claim 3 including manually operable switch means for selectively operating said first and second relays.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 16 words
A controller as claimed in claim 4 wherein said first and second paths include variable attenuators.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 17 words
A controller as claimed in claim 5 including amplifier means for compensating line losses during line loopback.
