A press roll suitable for use with a paper machine, which press roll interacts with a mating roll to drain a fibrous web being carried by a felt or fabric, said press roll having an elastic deformable outer casing to form an extended nip with said mating roll and further having an inner casing to support the outer casing on its periphery, characterized in that the inner casing is stationary, that the outer casing is slidingly mounted on said inner casing, and that in the region of said nip, at least one first pressure pad which is adapted to be subjected to pressure from the inside is located so as to abut on the inside of the outer casing.
