Abstract

Abstract ABSTRACT A normally opaque blush coating comprised of a mass of dispersed light-scattering polymeric particles in intimate con-tact with a minor amount of a binder composition, wherein the binder composition is adapted to collapse the coating and coalesce the polymeric particles into a normally translucent coating upon the application of either heat, or solvents selected from a wide spectrum of aromatic and aliphatic solvents. This form of blush coating susceptible to heat or to a wide spectrum of organic solvents finds use in the manufacture of lottery tickets. Such susceptibility reveals that solvent or thermal techniques have been used in tampering with the ticket or a pouch package in which the ticket is held. Such tampering is often the result of an illicit attempt to obtain information about the indicia printed on the ticket.

Claim 5
Dependent Claim 32 words
A blush coating as defined in claim 1, wherein the coat-ing contains from 10% to 25% of binder by volume, based on the total volume of light-scattering polymeric particles in the coating.
Claim 6
Dependent Claim 88 words
A lottery ticket including, as an integral portion thereof, as a means for detecting thermal and solvent tampering with said ticket, a blush coating comprised of a mass of dispersed light-scattering polymeric particles in intimate contact with a minor amount of a binder composition, wherein the binder composit-ion is adapted both to be water resistant and to collapse the coating and coalesce the polymeric particles into a normally translucent coating upon the application of either heat, or solvent selected from a wide spectrum of aromatic and aliphatic solvents.
Claim 7
Dependent Claim 88 words
A lottery ticket including, as an integral portion thereof, as a means for detecting thermal and solvent tampering with said ticket, a blush coating comprised of a mass of dispersed light-scattering polymeric particles in intimate contact with a minor amount of a binder composition, wherein the binder composit-ion is adapted both to be water resistant and to collapse the coating and coalesce the polymeric particles into a normally translucent coating upon the application of either heat, or solvent selected from a wide spectrum of aromatic and aliphatic solvents.
Claim 8
Dependent Claim 26 words
A lottery ticket as defined in claim 5, wherein said binder includes solvent-leachable plasticizer components which form means to accelerate coalescence of said light-scattering polymeric particles.
Claim 9
Dependent Claim 53 words
A lottery ticket as defined in claim 5, wherein the binder is thermally-activatable to allow coalescence of said light-scattering polymeric particles at a temperature which is in the range of from about 140°F to 220°F, and which is below the coalescence temperature of the light-scattering polymeric particles when heated without the binder system.
Claim 10
Dependent Claim 35 words

Claim 11
Dependent Claim 43 words
A lottery ticket as defined in claim 5, 6 or 7 wherein the blush coating is adjacent a colored substrate and wherein, on being coalescence of the light-scattering polymeric particles blush coating forms a translucent means to permit viewing of the colored substrate.
Claim 12
Dependent Claim 133 words
A pouch formed of a sheet material comprising (a) a polymer-based cohesive seal and (b) a polymer-based coating formed of small light-scattering polymeric particles deposited in intimate contact with one another within said pouch-forming sheet material, and wherein the light transmitting properties of the based coating is irreversibly and substantially changed by sub-jecting said polymeric particles to temperature of at least 140°F wherein said polymer-based coating includes a binder composition having a mass of dispersed light-scattering polymeric particles in intimate contact with a minor amount of a binder composition, wherein the binder composition is adapted both to be water resistant and to collapse the coating and coalesce the polymeric particles into a normally translucent coating upon the application of either heat, or solvents selected from a wide spectrum of aromatic and aliphatic solvents.
Claim 13
